Abuse Handling
Obscura operates relays and exits as part of the Tor network. By design, traffic originates from our IP addresses, but we do not log, monitor, or control the content that passes through our infrastructure.
We operate in compliance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which each node is hosted.
Understanding Tor Exit Traffic
Tor exit relays are the final hop in the Tor network. When you see traffic originating from our IP addresses, it is encrypted, anonymised traffic from Tor users. We do not have access to the original source IP, and we do not log any identifying information about the users whose traffic passes through our nodes.
Tor is a privacy network used worldwide for lawful anonymous communication and censorship circumvention. It is not designed for malicious activity, but like any network, it can be misused.
Our Policy
We handle all abuse reports in good faith and respond as promptly as possible. Our approach:
- Legitimate abuse reports — If a specific, actionable complaint identifies illegal activity with sufficient detail, we will review the report and may take operational action where technically feasible, which may include blocking the targeted destination or removing a node from the network.
- DMCA takedown requests — We review valid legal notices and respond where applicable. As a Tor exit relay operator, we do not host content and generally cannot remove material from third-party systems.
- Automated / bulk reports — Automated abuse complaints generated solely because an IP address is listed as a Tor exit relay may be ignored. We do not act on reports that do not contain specific, verifiable evidence of illegal activity.
- No logging — We do not retain traffic logs, connection metadata, or source IP records capable of identifying Tor users.
For Law Enforcement
If you are a law enforcement agency, please be aware that Tor exit relays do not log source IP addresses or any identifying information about users. We will cooperate with valid legal process to the extent we are able, but our technical capabilities are intentionally limited by design.
Please direct all inquiries to abuse@obscura.st. We attempt to review legitimate reports in a timely manner.
